Marcus Punch

Marcus Punch is the director of Marcus Punch Pty. Ltd. He has a wide-ranging industrial and consulting background in Australia and internationally. His experience, since graduating as an engineer in 1990, has included mining and resources, hydro-electricity, ship building, defence, railways and public infrastructure and international development sectors.

Marcus has extensive experience in the management and conduct of technical risk, safety engineering and reliability engineering work in these sectors. He has performed a wide range of risk and reliability techniques and methods, such as HAZOP / CHAZOP, FMEA / FMECA / FMEDA, reliability prediction, Reliability Block Diagrams (RBD), Monte-Carlo simulation, Reliability-centered Maintenance (RCM), Planned Maintenance Optimisation (PMO), Fault Tree Analysis (FTA), Event Tree Analysis (FTA), Layer of Protection Analysis (LOPA). He has also implemented AS/NZS4360 and AS/NZS/ISO31000 risk management processes and AS/IEC61508 functional safety lifecycle processes.

Marcus has presented at numerous Australian and international conferences and has had a technical paper related to reliability engineering published internationally.

During 2006 to 2008 Marcus was the Global Technical Risk Practice Leader for the Hatch Group, an international engineering, construction and project management company with about 8,000 employees worldwide.

Marcus holds a bachelors degree with honours in electrical engineering from the University of New South Wales, in Australia, a graduate diploma in risk management specialising in maintenance and reliability from Swinburne University in Australia and a masters degree in engineering management from the University of Newcastle, Australia. He is also a graduate of the Australian Defence Force Academy and the Royal Military College of Australia, Duntroon.

He has gained international work experience in Zimbabwe, Uganda, Malaysia, Germany, Papua New Guinea, South Korea, Taiwan and Singapore.

Marcus is a Chartered Professional Engineer (CPEng) and is a TV-certified Functional Safety Expert in Machinery and a TV-certified Functional Safety Engineer in Safety Instrumented Systems / Process.
